There were no windows in our room, and we could hear all the hallway noise. It was also dusty, dirty, and old, with garbage left inside. The staff were rude, and the towels and bedding really need replacing. This didn’t feel like a four-star hotel. There are better places to stay nearby.

There was so much furniture and clutter in our room that keeping it clean seemed difficult. It was dark, with poor air circulation, musty smells, and mold on the walls, so air quality felt like a real concern. We stayed last month and wouldn’t choose that room again. I can’t recommend it.

The hotel is beautiful, friendly, good value, and well placed for seeing Oaxaca city. There’s also a very sweet dog who greets you each morning hoping for belly rubs. Our Jardin Del Carmelo room was lovely, with a comfortable bed, good shower, plenty of space, and a pretty terrace overlooking the cathedral and mountains. The door wouldn’t lock, and the damage around its handle made it seem like this had been an issue before. Staff said they’d fix it, but nobody came by during our three days there. Luckily, I had no valuables with me.

The rooftop was a lovely extra, and the location in Oaxaca City is fantastic. Our room was spacious, beautifully decorated, and very clean. Service was exceptional, and breakfast was a great bonus. Such a hidden gem, highly recommend 👌!
