La Catrina de Alcala

After paying my bill and leaving a tip, I tried to relax on the green sofa and was aggressively confronted by a woman who seemed to be from a financial office in the space. She rudely said it was “for guests only.” I explained politely that I was a guest who’d just had a meal and a drink, but she gave me a hostile “evil eye” look. The negative, dirty energy felt personally offensive, and I was so uncomfortable I said I’d leave in five minutes just to get away from her. I’m writing this with deep disappointment about my September 13th visit to La Catrina de Alcala. The food was good, but the service was shockingly poor and the encounter was incredibly rude. I ordered the Omellette Saludable, coffee, guacamole and chips, and a glass of merlot. I tipped the waiter 100 pesos upfront in good faith. The guacamole came quickly and was fine, but I waited 45 minutes for the omelette in a restaurant that was completely empty except for me. To be fair, the omelette was excellently prepared, and the cooks clearly know what they’re doing. The Wi-Fi was so slow it was practically unusable. The long wait, bad internet, and hostile treatment made this one of my worst dining experiences in Oaxaca. The food was overshadowed by the service. I’ll never return and can’t recommend the place.
