Hostal Chocolate Calenda

The kitchen was well equipped, and the rooms were nice with comfortable beds. There wasn't much service, even basic cleaning in the eating areas was lacking. Continental breakfast was advertised, but none was provided.

The rooms and beds were clean, and the hostel is inexpensive. I also liked the privacy screens on the beds in the shared room. Still, I didn't feel comfortable with how every basic seemed to cost extra. Paying by card meant another charge; towels had to be rented, and so did locks for your belongings, if any were available. I understand it's a cheap hostel, but those basics should be included, even if that meant charging a little more.

The decor is nice, but I can't recommend this place. The location is fairly central, though the area isn't pleasant and the noise is bad. The room door couldn't be locked or even closed, so any guest could walk through the house. They also charge extra for a locker and towel, and add a fee for credit card payments. The hostel room is basically a garage in a modest house, crammed with 14 beds beside reception and the street. It was extremely loud.

The staff member was super friendly and gave great service. The beds had nice privacy, and the lockers were big and good. You can refill your water instead of using plastic bottles. The location is a little outside the center, about a 5-10 minute walk. There are no hostel signs, so just remember the building and knock if you get there late. I'd score it 8.5/10, but I'm giving it a 5.
