La Casona Oaxaca

The location is the one real plus here. The hotel feels worn out and needs a lot of attention, and it isn't cheap for such a below-average stay. The food was awful, service painfully slow, and the staff seemed uninterested until I raised problems, when suddenly they sprang into action. My room smelled bad and seemed poorly ventilated. The outlets didn't work, the beds were hard, the water pressure was below average, and the harsh lights sometimes had no shades. The TVs were no use to me: they required my own subscription details, which often don't work in foreign countries. This place needs real management and a stronger focus on service. I wouldn't recommend it or stay again.

We had a lovely stay. The place isn't the Ritz, but it was clean and comfortable, and right by everything we wanted to see downtown. The staff were professional and very friendly. They also kept our bags for a few hours after checkout before our flight, which helped a lot. There was plenty of hot water and the air conditioning worked, both essential for me. I'd happily come back.

The historic building is beautiful, and the location was fantastic. We could walk everywhere, including to great restaurants and good shopping. Such a lovely hotel.

It's quite modern, with a really comfortable bed and fast wifi. Being so close to the Xocalo made it easy to find food and get to Oaxaca's notable spots. The shower pressure was decent, but the water only ever got lukewarm. For the price, I expected a shower that worked better.
