A comfortable hostel with great staff and a lovely rooftop.

Nice decor and a good location. It can be a little noisy, but that’s normal for a hostel.

The shared spaces were always available, it was very clean, and the atmosphere was great. There’s a mango tree and an avocado tree, and we can enjoy the fruit when it’s in season. The staff were kind and always available. Thanks for the experience! It’s a great base for a few days in the centre, with trips to the mountains or the coast and then back to enjoy beautiful Oaxaca.

The private room was fairly priced, but the shared room cost too much for a mattress with springs sticking out. My partner got sick during what was meant to be a one-night stay and needed to lie down, so we reluctantly paid 70 pesos per person after checkout to use the common areas. We still couldn’t use the hammock area. On our last day, we paid 140 pesos to wait for our 11:00 PM bus, but around 10:00 PM we were told to leave because our shift was over and a colleague was missing, even though the hostel rules say closing time is 11:00 PM. The rules felt much too rigid for a hostel meant to offer budget-friendly shared and social accommodation, especially for young travelers and tourists. Water and coffee are free only under certain conditions. You can’t refill water bottles, which tourists need to do, and it pushes guests to buy plastic bottles that pollute the environment. Coffee is only available in the morning, with no milk or sugar. The staff didn’t seem willing to meet guests’ needs and showed little humanity or understanding. If you want a relaxed, flexible place, this isn’t the hostel for you. There are good shared facilities: plenty of showers and bathrooms, roomy living areas, a nice kitchen with all the necessary utensils, a big fridge, and a beautiful rooftop terrace for admiring the hills and sunset. The toilet paper is scented, and since it’s meant to go in the trash, there are no bad smells. Just remember to bring your own oil, salt, and similar basics, because they aren’t provided.

I’m in a shared room for 200 Mexican pesos, but I have it to myself. The bathrooms could be better, though the common areas are nice. Service is very good, and the area feels safe and is close to buses from Mexico City. It could be a good starting point for a first visit to Oaxaca.
