Hotel Victoria Oaxaca

I asked for a quiet room and ended up beside the bar. The front desk said the bar would close at 1 am, but the music kept going until 2. The room itself was okay except for some odd stains, and the beds were hard and uncomfortable. It was small, though there was a big closet. Breakfast wasn’t included and cost a lot. I wouldn’t recommend it.

Some rooms are really nice, while others feel quite old, and the service can be great or just so-so. It’s a great hotel that could use a little touch-up.

The shower was very good, but it was the only real redeeming feature. The room felt tired, with stained old decor, threadbare carpet, questionable electrics, and no outlets by the bed. I had to run an extension cord from behind the second bed. There were two queen beds in a king-size room. There was no fridge, and they couldn’t provide one or a kettle. I booked for the pool, but its heater had apparently been broken for months, maybe years. That says a lot about a worn-down, rather grim place. I thought from the map it was just beyond Centro across a river, but that river is actually a busy highway, making the drive into Centro a pain and bringing road noise from below. It felt like a bus tour hotel that had stopped trying to stay current. Centro is stunning and has lots of good options, so do yourself a favor and stay elsewhere. I ended up staying 8 nights before heading to the coast for a change of scenery. I left early and gave up two nights, but was glad I did. Rob

I checked out early. The front desk wasn’t friendly, and everything in the so-called superior room felt depressing: old furniture, poor lighting, and bad internet. The windows were ancient, so all the road noise came through. Maybe this hotel was luxurious 15 years ago, but at this price it isn’t worth it.
