Street traffic and noise inside the hotel were both hard to ignore. My room had no direct sunlight, and it smelled like a place that barely gets any. The strong cleaning chemicals added to it and made me feel sick. I had flu-like symptoms for my whole stay, then they went away after I left.

The view in most rooms is of a very noisy parking lot below, especially in the afternoon when music is played at full volume. Later at night and in the morning, traffic noise comes through because the rooms aren’t soundproof. My bed was a mattress on concrete, about as comfortable as a jail bed. The internet was useless and wouldn’t even load a page. There’s no card terminal, so they say you can only pay cash, which means tourists should expect fees. The rude woman at reception also doesn’t speak English, so things may be difficult if you don’t speak Spanish. The online photos make the hotel look better than it is; in person it feels much cheaper than expected and was disappointing. The booking problems started right away. They claimed my reservation was three days shorter than it really was, while charging the same price. When I showed the receptionist the booking on my phone, she wouldn’t even look at the screen or believe me. She was incredibly rude, and I’ve never seen someone behave like that at a hotel desk. After I cancelled half the reservation, it took days to prove I was telling the truth and get the right refund. They wanted to charge me 2,000 MXN extra even though they had agreed to cancel it “for free.” That made my time in Puerto Escondido really unpleasant, before even getting into how bad the hotel itself was. I wouldn’t recommend staying here at any price. Thanks for giving me one of my worst hotel experiences in six months of travelling around Latin America.

The ocean view is probably one of the best around, and the location is great. Rooms were comfortable, prices were affordable, and the staff were nice. I’d recommend it.

It’s a beautiful hostel/hotel, but they seem to take any chance to charge extra. I got billed another 400 pesos for a night just because my belongings were still in the room a little past checkout. Nobody had told me that was the policy, or I would have moved them. They also added 50 pesos, and when I asked what it was for, I got no explanation.
