El Origen Villas & Spa Puerto Escondido

El Origen felt peaceful and welcoming, with thoughtful design and outstanding service that made the whole stay effortless. It’s one of the best villas I’ve stayed in. I’d absolutely recommend it and would gladly return. A wonderful experience from beginning to end. ✨

The staff were incredibly kind and helpful, and the beach is stunning, though the waves are too strong for safe swimming. There’s a pool at the hotel and another at the beach club. The property itself is beautiful, with spacious, well-designed rooms and a great beachfront setting, but it feels more like an upscale Airbnb than a regular hotel. Plan on having transportation. There are no restaurants or supermarkets nearby, and taxis can be hard to get and slow to arrive. The beach club serves tasty food, but only from noon to 7 PM, and it’s closed Wednesdays. There’s no breakfast or other food at the hotel. I’d happily pay for a few basics to be stocked in the fridge before arrival.

The main drawback is how far it is from the center. I wouldn’t want to drive that long, messy road on a scooter. Taxis from La Punta will try to charge a fortune, though the correct fare is 400-500 pesos one way. If possible, ask a local to negotiate, since taxis are difficult. We really enjoyed spending the day at the pool. For 700pesos, the day rate included a main course, two drinks, and sunbeds, which cost 200 per bed, the same as basic beach beds. Given the quality of the space and how intense the waves are in puerto Escondido, it’s a nice way to swim and avoid the cacophony of beach DJs.

We loved Villas & Spa El Origen, from the service to the quality of the rooms and the beach club next door. We’ll definitely return. The kitchen was so well equipped that we wish we’d brought more food to cook, since the beach club tab can add up. For a five-star stay, I’d have liked 24-hour service, or at least a vending machine for emergencies. Hotel guests should also be able to bring their own food or drinks into the beach club.
