Punta Zicatela Hotel

The hotel allows children, and they can get pretty noisy around the pool. When I asked the front desk, they said guests are considered adults once they turn 13. Calling that adulthood feels strange and unsafe, especially when the policy means kids may be making a lot of noise at the pool.

The water pipes make a racket while they fill the hotel, sometimes late at night and sometimes as early as 7am on a Sunday. I wish they’d use a bit of common sense and start later on Sundays.

The walkie-talkies were noisy all day while we were trying to relax. Renting a beach chair costs 300 MXN, which seems normal for non-guests, but getting a cocktail was impossible.

We really liked the clean, comfortable rooms, the balcony, and the friendly staff. The cocktails on the beach and rooftop were good, too. There are plenty of beach loungers, which was helpful since the pool is indoors, with only a small seating area that people walk past often. The problem was seeing children in the pool. The hotel was advertised as “adults only,” but reception told us anyone over 13 counts as an adult. That feels misleading, and the age rule should be clearer at booking.
