The hotel was clean and pleasant, with a gorgeous bay view. Rain did leak into our room, which was my one complaint, but friendly staff came quickly to help, so it wasn’t a deal breaker.

The property is lovely, clean, and peaceful, and the staff were very friendly. What disappointed me was booking the Estrella room for its advertised patio hot tub and finding out only after arrival that it didn’t work. It appears in the photos and listed amenities. Had I known after booking, I’d have chosen a cheaper room or another hotel with a private pool or jacuzzi. We planned much of our anniversary trip around those features. The in-room wifi also didn’t work. I emailed hotels.com during the stay, and staff sent the night security guard up to check both it and the jacuzzi. He was the second staff member to tell us the motor was broken. This is the private tub, not the public one by the main pool. I’d call to confirm the amenities are working before booking, or get that confirmation in writing.

On arrival, we had a lovely stay for our second visit. The two-bedroom room was fantastic for me, my daughter, and my mom, with stunning views of Banderas Bay. We watched the New Year’s Eve fireworks, and the staff gave us special drinks and 12 grapes to eat at midnight. Thank you! I did have trouble communicating with the hotel from the States because their Internet had been cut off. It would still be great if they checked their email more closely.

The walk up the hill is pretty steep, just so you know, but it’s doable and the view you get at the top is absolutely worth it. The city’s best views, in my opinion. Mercedes was wonderful, serving breakfast every morning and looking after our rooms. They also provide safe drinking water throughout the hotel.

We really enjoyed our ten nights at Luna Liquida, though I’m not sure I’d tackle that climb again. It’s close to everything and quiet, with a beautiful outlook, but getting there on foot is a tough uphill walk. Water is placed at the entrance, in the kitchen, and by the pool, which is especially welcome after the climb. Near the end, it wasn’t replenished as often, and during the busier period we found it empty a few times. The pool area was my favorite spot, with seating in both sun and shade and an infinity pool overlooking Centro. We visited in January, when whales were having their young, and saw a whale and its young from there almost every day. The staff made us feel at home, especially Mercedes and Sonja, who served breakfast each morning. Our room and bathroom were large and clean, and the kitchen area was inviting and equipped for basic cooking. We’d booked two queen beds, but got doubles instead. The mattresses were very firm. It took a day or two to adjust, then I found them good for my back. Outside noise comes through easily, as I’d expect in a warm climate with thinner windows. I like to sleep in, so my earplugs helped in the morning. We’d read complaints about hot water, but had it every day. It just took a while to come through, and we showered at odd times to avoid using it when everyone else was. Puerto Vallarta was lovely, and this hotel is beautiful for a shorter stay.
