Altavista Hotel

I was impressed by how much room there was: a closet, chest of drawers, seating area, good lighting, and plenty of outlets. The decor was sparse, with just a large TV on the wall, but the AC worked well and the bed and big pillows were comfortable. The bathroom was roomy and looked new, with a walk-in rain shower and soap and shampoo dispensers. Everything was clean. Altavista Hotel is on Miguel Hidalgo Avenue, the road toward Monterrey, about 1.5 miles from the anillo periferico. It feels like a quiet, elegant break from the city, with gardens, a pool, attractive shared spaces, and a fountain in the spacious lobby. It would work well for a family or a business trip. There are banquet rooms, plus a lovely restaurant serving a full hot buffet breakfast with eggs made to order. Desk staff were friendly and efficient, parking was free and secure, and the rates seemed low for the quality. The major problem was the water. It came out heavily rust colored from both the tap and shower, and even stained a towel when I dried off. Don’t drink it or brush your teeth with it. Use the bottled water provided. The hotel needs a filtration or purification system. This is why I rated the room three stars. The other, smaller drawback was the window. It wouldn’t open, and the glass wasn’t clear. I wondered if it was scratched plexiglass, and a nice view would have been hard to enjoy through it. Apart from that and especially the water, Altavista is a great hotel.

Breakfast was great, and the hotel was clean and nice. I’ll definitely come back when I get the chance.

We came for breakfast and had a lovely time. It’s a buffet, with a chef making omelets, eggs, pancakes, and the like to order. The staff were friendly and very accommodating, and there was fresh cut fruit and fresh juice. The dining room is beautiful. We’ll be back, and I’d recommend it as a quaint breakfast spot. We can only comment on the food, but the shared areas were clean and well kept, with plenty of parking out front for diners. I saw a review complaining that staff “don’t speak English,” but we’re in Mexico, homies. That wasn’t a reason for me to take off a star.

The place is pretty average. The staff don't speak English, and the service was just okay. The interior looks fine, though old, and there was hair on the bedsheets. Breakfast was the worst part. There were only about two and a half dishes to choose from. One day they made us an extra omelette, but the next day a woman said no. They had only nachos with sauce besides the omelette, so I don't see why they couldn't make another one. It seemed too difficult that time, even though for two mornings in a row we were the only ones at breakfast. The pool was really dirty too, with cigarette butts floating in it.
