Hotel Baja del Sol Inn

Definitely not a family-friendly spot. There’s a lot of coming and going, rooms can be checked out for just four hours, and the front desk has a wide selection of sex toys if you need them.

I booked through Expedia, but when I arrived they said they had no reservation for me. The new employee at the desk didn't know how to handle it, and the manager wasn't there. After she called him, he told her to cancel my reservation. I explained I needed somewhere to sleep that night, but she said there were no rooms. While I called around to find another hotel, I watched a few couples arrive. I felt disrespected, and the whole trip turned into a disaster.

The prices are very low, and there are two places to eat next door, which is handy. The concierge was kind and gave us useful information. There’s a microwave in the lobby, along with drinks and snacks, and although the parking area is small, they also have private parking out back. You have to leave your room key at the lobby when you go out and pick it up when you return. The motel is pretty large and colorful, but it has a somewhat sketchy feel. The rooms look like they need a makeover, and the air conditioner doesn't cool. Breakfast isn't included.

The room smelled of smoke, which makes sense since smoking is allowed inside. The furniture and doors were very old, and the whole place could use an update. In the bathroom, mold in the shower gave off a terrible smell, almost like a dead, rotting rat. I felt like I was breathing it into my lungs. The sheets were old and nearly worn through; they seemed either insufficiently washed or too worn for the dirt to come out, and my skin broke out in a rash from contact with them. The bathroom smell and dirty sheets made the stay unbearable. I'll pay more for another hotel next time, and I won't come back here.
