Best Western Saltillo

A nice spot to get a good night's sleep, with tasty food too.

The landline in my room didn’t work, and there were no coffee bags for making coffee in the room. Breakfast was just coffee, pastries, a few bananas and an orange, with no scrambled eggs. They charge 175 pesos per person for that basic offering, which isn’t an American breakfast.

For over US$100, I expected a much better room. It was uncomfortable, not very clean, and not especially nice. We knew it wasn’t near the city center, but this was the most we’d paid in two weeks in Mexico, so we thought the quality would make up for the location. In Monterrey, a larger and more expensive city, we’d just paid US$90 for a far nicer, more comfortable room right in the center at Hotel Centria. Breakfast was another letdown: toast with margarine instead of butter and a few unappealing sweet cakes. Then they offered eggs for another $130 pesos. Poor value, and the place really stinks.

The rooms with kitchens could be useful, but the utensils were missing or too few, so you’d need to buy your own. The rooms also aren’t well insulated. Mine had a connecting door, and noise from other rooms came through. At 4 a.m. reception called to ask for my car key because the rental company had arrived to collect the cars without warning. I hung up, then someone knocked on my door. The scrambled eggs at breakfast were always spicy, and there wasn’t much variety. There was also a loud party in the barbecue area that went on until 2 a.m. one day. The hotel did nothing to address it, despite what I understood to be a quiet-hours rule.
