Bambu is still my favorite hotel on the Oaxaca coast after all these years of visiting. The shared spaces open straight onto the beach, and there’s a well-equipped communal kitchen with a big table if you feel like chatting with other travelers. For quieter moments, there are hammocks beneath the palapas and trees. Memo, Miguel and the staff are all so kind. The rooms are designed to feel tucked among the trees beside the ocean. They’re open enough that the sea breeze usually does the job, so air conditioning isn’t really needed, though some rooms have it. This place suits you if you’re after quiet beauty, simple elegance and an easygoing atmosphere. If you want a pool, an all-inclusive resort, parties or luxury service, it probably won’t be your thing.

A clean place right on the beach, with a friendly owner and staff and a kitchen that has everything you need. Great for surfing, relaxing and taking it easy.

We felt at home here and hated to leave after our five nights in October 2023. It was lovely to eat at the table overlooking the ocean, especially since San Augustinillo doesn’t have many places to eat out. Our son was happy playing in the sand and petting the dogs just outside. There were three of us, two adults and one child. The room had everything we needed, and we made plenty of use of the shared open-air kitchen. Falling asleep to the waves and waking up with the ocean right in front of the room was amazing. If you want a quiet spot to relax and enjoy the beach and ocean, you should come here.

Miguel, the owner and manager, is a really cool, accommodating guy. We were struck by how clean our room was, and it was right by the water, only steps from the beach. The room was spacious, the beds were great, the fans were strong and clean, and the water pressure was solid. The lounge areas felt comfortable and peaceful, and having fridge space in the shared kitchen was handy for food and drinks. I’d recommend it to anyone.
