The place looks beautiful at first, but I recommend taking your money elsewhere. I stayed for a whole month and had a hellish time there. I work online, so the internet mattered. When I arrived, they said they were fixing it and promised it would be "good." In my room it was 2 Mbps or less, and I couldn't even connect to Instagram on my phone. They kept promising to fix it throughout my stay, but never did. Every night I had to teach my students from the lobby, where the connection was 8 Mbps or less and only lasted through half my lessons. It was incredibly stressful. Two weeks in, I begged one of the owners/investors who works on-site, Ramon, to refund half my 10,000 MXN rent so I could move somewhere that suited my needs. They had advertised a service they didn't deliver, and I couldn't spend time in my house because of it. Ramón kept oddly repeating that he wanted to be my friend. I couldn't understand why a "friend" would want to cause me so much pain. The rooms are freezing. There's no central heating, which is standard here, so that part wasn't an issue. I borrowed two portable heaters from friends in the city. But the doors have large gaps underneath, letting in the elements, including lots of rain in San Cristóbal and wasps/bees at Casa Maya. The cleaning was terrible. Housekeepers barged in many times, and I practically had to beg them to take out my trash and clean the dead bees off the floor. They left my door wide open four times, not just unlocked. They refused to give me extra towels and only provide one. At night, I used towels taken from other rooms to block the huge gap under the balcony door and keep out the freezing air. There was another issue with Hugo, the other "owner," who I think is actually the son of another investor. He promised that for the rest of my stay they'd take me to a friend's house with good internet five days a week, from 9 to 11 pm, since I teach in Asia. On the first night, he picked me up and invited me for drinks with himself, Ramón, another employee, and another hotel resident. We had a good time, danced, and everything seemed fine. Then he told me he was 20, though he was actually 18, and asked to come up to my room because he "liked me." I said no and went to sleep. This person who manages the hotel tried to sleep with me under false pretenses. Unprofessional? After that first night, he didn't offer to take me back as promised, presumably because I didn't sleep with him. When I left, I sold Ramon the two portable heaters for 400 MXN total. New, they're worth between 700 and 1500 MXN. One of my friends later asked me to return them, though they'd previously said they didn't want them. I explained it to Ramon, and he reluctantly agreed. I went to the hotel and gave him 200 MXN back, but he never returned the heater to my friend. I've tried asking him to give me my money back, and he refuses. I feel robbed. After all of that, he said I had been disrespectful. PLEASE, I implore you, DO NOT GIVE YOUR MONEY TO THESE PEOPLE!
