GR Solaris Lighthouse Los Cabos Hotel

The entertainment team made the stay at GR Solaris Lighthouse memorable. Fernando and Adani brought so much energy and genuine care to the guests. They remembered people’s names and made the pool activities, games, and evening shows feel welcoming and personal. There was always something fun happening, and the resort never felt boring. The whole experience was amazing and exceeded expectations, but those two were a big part of what made the trip special. The activities made it easy to relax, laugh, and enjoy the day. I’d absolutely come back. Thanks for an unforgettable vacation.

We stayed at the Solaris at the end of February and into the first week of March, and saw whales every day from the pool and beach. The hotel is clean and well maintained, and the staff are so friendly and make an effort to help you feel welcome. Hot water for showers feels like a luxury in Mexico, and Solaris has it! The regular buffet food was good, about what you’d expect, but the seafood and ceviche buffet from 2 to 4 p.m. was a great addition. The sushi restaurant was the best sushi I’ve had in Mexico, and the service there was excellent. Book as soon as you arrive, and go twice if you can. The Mexican restaurant was really good too, as was the Friday night buffet outside for the whole resort. Don’t miss it.

We enjoyed our vacation here, especially the food and the staff. The Italian and Mexican restaurants were fantastic, and the buffet was mostly good. Mexican nights were fun, with lots of food to choose from. I appreciated the gluten-free labels, though they often didn’t match the dish, so as someone with celiac disease I still had to be careful. The pool snack bar was great for lunch, and the pool waiters, who also often served in the restaurants, worked hard and were excellent. Marlen cleaned our room for most of the stay and was wonderful. She answered our daughter’s Spanish notes every day, which was so sweet and special for her. Fernando, the entertainment manager, Emiliano, and the rest of the entertainment staff worked hard to keep everyone having a good time. Getting a pool chair was easy for the first few days without waking before sunrise. After that, towels were already saving chairs before 6 a.m. We joined in, then someone took one of our towels. When I went to the front desk for a new towel card, the staff lectured me about not reserving chairs. I’m happy not to get up early to save one, if everyone follows that rule. The location is good, a short ride from the airport, unless you’re stuck waiting nearly an hour for bus passengers who never show up. Check-in was rough too. Three people at the desk were all busy with one guest, no bellhop offered help, and nobody explained where our room was. Tired and hungry after traveling, we were then stopped by someone beside check-in asking if we wanted excursions. That wasn’t the time.

We checked in on a Friday after the hotel agreed to take a plane full of passengers whose flight had turned around. It was a miserable welcome. The hotel seemed empty, with only one restaurant open for dinner, a mediocre Mexican buffet, yet they said there were no rooms and they were “full.” The first room, in the old section, smelled bad and was dirty. It had a broken chair and phone, and the toilet immediately overflowed all over the floor. The man checking us in was rude and unhelpful, and didn’t seem to care about the sewage. He had no alternative to offer. About 20 minutes later, a very nice woman somehow found us a perfectly fine king room in the “nice” part of the hotel. It had no blanket, only sheets. Other guests told us their shower didn’t work and they had no towels or washcloths. One family found blood on their sheets. We’d considered trying this hotel many times, and this free stay after our plane trouble was a disappointing way to do it. Every family we spoke with from the flight was unhappy with the service and rooms. Solaris, you had a plane full of potential repeat customers and blew it. Shame on Delta too. We’ll never stay here.
