Hotel Chely

The beds were comfortable, the hot water plentiful, and the location made it easy to get to the city center. But the place echoes so much that other guests can wake you in the middle of the night, and we didn’t get a good night’s sleep. The stay wasn’t awful, just unpleasant. Service was poor, with waits of about half an hour, and they tried to charge more than the rate shown on Booking.com. The rooms also lacked enough amenities for our group. We had to bring our own trash bags, shampoo, towels, and a light. It gets especially dark at night because there isn’t enough lighting.

We had a reservation, but when we arrived nobody opened the door. A very rude woman told us through the window that our room had been given away. So what was the point of reserving it? Luckily, I found a room at the much nicer Real de la Peña, where the people were very friendly. I could just as easily have found nowhere to stay, with Hotel Chely leaving me stranded despite my reservation.

I didn’t enjoy the stay. Our 11:00 AM checkout was still 20 minutes away when the lady was already asking us to leave. The hotel was noisy too, with doors slamming and young guests smoking without anyone saying anything. Nobody was around at night to regulate who came and went, so we couldn’t get any rest. I booked through Booking.com, which listed internet service, but there was no internet. For the price, I could have found somewhere better.

It’s clean and simple, a good place to relax, and the lady is very friendly. There’s no Wi-Fi. Parking is across the street, but it doesn’t stay open around the clock, which is inconvenient. The man gets annoyed if you ask him for something.
