The Bersal House

The photos looked nothing like the room we got. It was run-down, with the sink inside the room and a window facing a street-level staircase. It was freezing, and there was no heater or air conditioning. The mattress was incredibly uncomfortable, and the shower water only got lukewarm. There wasn’t even a street sign identifying the place. Getting to the center means a long, steep climb. Never again.

It’s comfortable enough, and we’d rent it again. We only used the place for sleeping. It’s clean and pleasant, with parking, and it’s easy to reach different parts of the city even though it isn’t right downtown. Breakfast was delicious, if not very varied.

We arrived to find the place dirty. The stairs were very dusty and had stones on them. Maybe that was from renovations, but it still didn’t excuse the mess. The bathroom is cramped, and it’s hard to move around or shower without splashing water into the hallway. The water was only lukewarm or hot during the day. The microwave barely heated things, and the mugs didn’t keep drinks warm, so tea or coffee went cold quickly. In one room, the fan only works when the lights are on, which made it hard to sleep comfortably.
