Amigos Hostel Cozumel

My first hostel stay was a good one, and the host was lovely. It’s a clean, very simple place in the centro, center of Cozumel. Bring a towel and a small lock if you’re new to hostels. Rooms are shared. I was there in late March, and I don’t believe there was AC, but the room stayed temperate, not too hot. The pool, sleeping area, and bathroom were clean. The kitchen and lounge are outdoors. There’s free WiFi but no TVs. Everything is close, though you’ll need to walk or find a taxi to reach resorts or beach clubs. You can also bike or use a moto.

The pool is clean and a nice spot to relax. Cathy is bloody amazing. She gave us so much information, and the details in her pdf’s made it easy to figure out what to do on the island. She also knows the best deals around and helps you make your money go further.

Kathy’s a fun host with loads of knowledge about the island and diving. She even surprised us with some 🥞 one morning. We had a really nice time here. If you’re in cozumel to dive, or just want a full night’s sleep, this is the perfect spot.

There’s a beautiful pool, plenty of greenery, a good reading area, and a clean kitchen with all the facilities. It feels fresh once you get through the big front door, and that cleaning lady deserves a big tip. The walk from the ferry station is 19 minutes. The owner is very helpful about the island and its dos and don’ts. Sometimes she can feel a little nosy about your personal life and details. When she showed us the map at the table, I felt like she was noticing every gesture, what I was wearing, maybe the bracelets from another hostel I’d stayed at, and where I’d been on the trip. I’m not saying she was overly judgy, though. Take it positively, she may just be very caring and protective of her property, and she’s been running the hostel stickily fairly well for the last 40 years. There are some shady areas around the property. A couple of tips: mosquitoes will keep kissing you outside your room, so put some love cream on your skin. The AC depends on the weather temperature, with no certain celsius number identified, and only runs from 10 pm to 6 am or 7, not sure, so plan accordingly.
