La Esquina

The grounds and rooms are extraordinary, and manager Brooke is a pleasure to work with. If you're vacationing in Sayulita, this is the place to stay.

We love La Esquina for a day at the beach with the provided umbrella and lounge chairs, a sunny day by the pool, or a night out in town. The location is just right: a block or two from the Plaza and nightlife, steps from the shallow end of the beach, and still quiet and peaceful at night. The kids absolutely love the pool, with its big shallow area and ocean and beach view. You can wake up looking at the ocean, and there's always a breeze off the water, even on hot days. Rooms have kitchenettes, and there's a big fridge and freezer by the pool for keeping drinks cool. It's a hybrid hotel, a bit like an Airbnb, with no room service or management on the property; the front desk is just around the corner below. Housekeeping doesn't come daily to change sheets and towels or clean, but every other day or so has suited us. Staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, and the amenities feel luxurious for a reasonable price. Stays need to be longer than one night, but we always end up wishing we could stay longer. I can't say enough about how much location matters here. Highly recommend!

We came back for another stay, and the room and view were just as excellent as before. The pool was warm and the deck area well kept. Housekeeping is provided six days a week, and they did a great job. Our housekeeper was very friendly, hardworking, and spoke very good English. Brooke at reception is always available to answer questions or deal with requests. If you want a small boutique hotel, this is the place. Like most of the hotels we've stayed at here, it isn't a true full-service hotel, but this location is the next best thing. Highly recommend.

We rented the whole building for several nights, eight rooms plus the penthouse. For what you get, the units are priced okay. It's beachfront and within walking distance of everything, with a clean, warm pool, great views, well kept grounds, and very friendly cleaning and maintenance staff. We liked the poolside bathroom, fridge, and sink. Wifi worked well enough for us, though we weren't streaming. There were significant problems across the rooms. Several had no hot water, and some had almost no water pressure or none at all. A few had both no pressure and no hot water. The penthouse bathroom smelled strongly of sewage, so we had to keep the door shut. Its floors were filthy, leaving our feet black and covered in long dark hairs, though we're blonde. The ceiling LEDs stayed faintly lit all night even when switched off. Maintenance had a lot to address, from ceiling fans and AC units to hot water. They tried their best, but most of my guests didn't have hot water during their stay. The penthouse kitchen was under-equipped, with most cupboards and drawers empty, and the individual unit kitchens were stocked very basically too. No salt or pepper, and housekeeping removes those if you buy them and leave them. The maintenance machines started too early, with leaf blowers every day at 7 AM. It's a very loud location, with pounding music from beach raves and bars until sunrise every night, even in low season. There was no management on-site, and working with Indira wasn't great. A lot got lost in translation, and it was frustrating to communicate only by email, with no phone or WhatsApp provided.
