I was glad when the manager asked me to leave after one night, since I already felt the room wasn't worth the $500 a night I had paid for seven nights. The hotel allows cigarette smoking in the open area but not cannabis, and she said I had been smoking marijuana. The trouble started when she refunded me $200 less than I expected, saying she charged $600 for the two nights I stayed. I argued that the online price was $375 a night, and she then said I had to leave immediately and she wouldn't refund the night I would miss. I called the police, and the dispatcher agreed that if the hotel wanted me out, it should return the money. When officers arrived, we each explained what happened. I said I was from the US, and the officer immediately ordered my things removed and put me out. They wouldn't give me their names and ran off when I tried to photograph them. At least this happened downtown, where there are plenty of hotels, though I still had to push my luggage to another one at midnight. The room itself had no hot water, very thin sheets, and a plastic toilet seat that bent into the toilet when I wiped myself with paper. I later checked online and saw the price was $375 per night. This kind of criminal conduct with police support is reducing the flow of visitors to Tapachula.
