Most of our cash went missing from an envelope we’d hidden at the very top of the closet. When we returned on the first evening, it had been moved to the bottom and MOST of the money was gone. We asked the next morning whether anyone had entered the room, but the answer was no. With no working ATM nearby, we lost half a day arranging for more cash to be wired from home, and we skipped breakfast because we were so annoyed. The room itself was nice, and the parrots were friendly. We stayed two nights while traveling through Southern Mexico, but the staff seemed to have amnesia whenever we asked about the money.

The price was excellent, and the coffee was tasty and unlimited. The mole with the fried eggs was very good, though the eggs were overcooked. The service was attentive and efficient, and the setting was pleasant. The zapote was a lovely surprise, juicy and sweet.

Lunch or breakfast here is worth a stop. They bring you something complimentary while you wait, and the food is delicious, full of flavor and well seasoned. I was surprised by how nicely the dishes were presented. The service is attentive and very good. Though it’s right in the heart of Tapachula, inside you can forget the traffic and even the heat.
