Holiday Inn Express Toluca by IHG

The Christmas decorations were lovely, and service was excellent, especially from the cleaning crew and kitchen staff. The hotel is on a very busy road with bus stops, though, and getting into the parking lot feels dangerous.

I won't be staying here again. The whole hotel feels dated, with old, sometimes dirty carpets in the halls and rooms, and dirty wallpaper. My room's TV didn't work. Security was terrible: my colleague was robbed right outside the front door. Breakfast was unacceptable. The unheated lobby had old armchairs, there was no bar, and the whole place felt uncomfortable and out of date.

We'd absolutely come back. The hotel was excellent value and the best Mexican hotel we've stayed in. The included breakfast was excellent, with juice, coffee, tea, toast, fruit, cereal, eggs, and a specialty hot dish. You serve yourself, and the staff kept everything clean and well stocked. Our room was spotless and smelled fresh, bathrooms included. The beds had clean, high-quality bedding and were very comfortable. We were there in winter, and even with cold mornings and evenings, the room stayed warm enough for a T-shirt without turning on heat. The shower had strong pressure and good temperature, and the toilet flushed properly. We had excellent Wi-Fi in the room, with a full signal. The login uses a captive portal. It took five minutes or more for the login page to show on Linux, while our Windows laptop and Android phones brought it up right away. We'd never had hotel internet this good, which was a big help since we had online work to do. There were power outlets everywhere, by the bed, on the wall, and at the desk. We could charge two laptops and two phones at once without a power strip. The area is the industrial part of town, but the overbridge to the Gallerias mall is right outside the lobby, and it's only a five- to six-minute walk. We didn't see any OXXOs nearby. For a shop, turn left leaving the hotel, then left again at the first street, where there's a small tienda not far away. The lobby also has vending machines for drinks and snacks, so bring coins. We were warned against walking around at night because of muggings and assaults in that part of the city. Hotel security was excellent, with vigilant staff. There was plenty of parking below the building, and staff checked on the car park regularly. The staff were helpful, though I wouldn't call them friendly. After checkout I spent seven hours in the lobby, and they were fine with me staying there. There was good Wi-Fi and plenty of outlets to use.

Don't stay here. Nothing worked for me: the TV was out, and the internet was slow or unavailable. The location was bad too. There are better choices.
