Radisson Hotel & Convention Center Toluca

The rooms were okay, and I got a good rate since it was the slow season and there wasn't a convention. Having a Starbucks right next door was handy. Still, loud explosions kept going off during the day, at night, and even early in the morning around 6am. I don't know what was happening, but I didn't get much rest.

I liked the open shelves in the room, since they make it harder to leave things behind, and the long desk was great. The coffee maker was useful, but there was no fridge or microwave. At this level, not having a fridge was a real letdown. The desk outlet, with two USB-A ports, is only at one end, so you need a long power strip to use it alongside the coffeemaker, or move the coffeemaker to the sink counter. The interior design is beautiful, especially the arboretum and atrium, which have a mood-lifting feel. Staff were courteous and professional, the room was clean, the WiFi was good, and the bed was comfortable. I also loved the adjustable magnifying face mirror in the bathroom alcove. But people walked past the rooms, and I had to use clothespins to close a gap in the drapes for privacy. Keeping the drapes closed blocked fresh air from the atrium. Sounds of conversations from the atrium echoed into my room constantly. Breakfast wasn't included, and the missing features that matter to me outweighed the nice parts.

The breakfast was only decent, and my room had no outside window, just a view into a dark, enclosed inner garden. The carpets and furniture looked old, and the whole hotel felt dated, like the 1980s, which made for a rather depressing atmosphere. Given the worn furnishings and lack of natural light, I was surprised and suspicious of its high Google Maps rating.

The rooms are pretty average, and breakfast is very average too. There is a lovely indoor garden with a bar.
