The manager and staff were incredibly accommodating, and I appreciated how they handled our concerns. They arranged for us to move to a larger room at no extra charge after getting the owner’s approval, and offered to list our original room online in hopes of getting us a possible refund. Everyone stayed courteous throughout. Still, we didn’t enjoy our honeymoon stay. We wanted somewhere quiet, private, and comfortable, and this wasn’t it. A beach club right next door played disco and club music from noon until 11 p.m., loud enough to shake our room’s walls. The Colombus room had an unmistakable urinal smell, though staff said they couldn’t detect it. Its open design may have contributed. The rooms are small, and the online photos don’t really show how cramped they feel. In June, the AC ran only from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m. and didn’t do much. This might suit people who want to party or spend little time at the resort, but I wouldn’t recommend it for a relaxing stay.

The beach is gorgeous, with clear blue water and white sand, and we could have stayed there all day. We’ll definitely come back and tell our friends about Cabañas La Luna. The thatched cabins feel wonderfully natural and are a good place to unplug. The beds are very comfortable and have mosquito nets. Tree stumps serve as tables and chairs, and there’s little electronic noise, though the wifi worked well when we wanted to message home. The staff were warm and helpful, and our server, Felipe, became a friend. The food and drinks were excellent. We especially liked the fresh seafood risotto and Mexican rosé wine.

Right on Tulum Beach and close to the beach clubs, this is a decent choice if that location is what you want, though it felt a bit overpriced. The bungalows are cool, the beds have mosquito nets, and the staff are friendly and welcoming. The food was great, too. The downsides were the noise from Taboo beach club and other guests, whose quiet hours the staff didn’t enforce. The shower water smelled awful and tasted disgusting if it got in your mouth. Being right on the sand is nice, but tracking sand into your room is almost unavoidable.

Seeing leatherback turtles come ashore to lay eggs on the property, then watching the hatchlings head for the water, was the best part of our stay. Environmental staff came by regularly to check the nests and turtles. We had the large cabin with a pool shared with another family, and there was plenty of room for everyone. The pool was a nice change from the beach, though it’s 6 feet, or 1.8 meters, deep all the way around. Having a kitchen made it easy to throw together some brat food when needed. The AC ran from evening until morning, which was good for sleeping, and the room stayed fairly cool during the day. The shared pool was also a nice place to hang out. Staff were attentive and very accommodating, and the cleaners were pleasant and efficient. The restaurant was fabulous. I liked eating on the deck in the sea breeze, though you can also sit on the sand. The beach was kept clear of seaweed and had plenty of chairs, loungers, umbrellas, and hammocks. The neighboring hotel played too much beach techno during the day, but turned it down by 7 p.m. It wasn’t too annoying, though the sound of the beach and waves would have been nicer. Keep an eye out for the saxophone player.

We stayed at Cabanas La Luna in March and April 2017 and had an amazing time. We’ve enjoyed other places on Tulum beach, but this one brought together all the things we like in a relaxing, fun vacation. Our cabana, Robinson Crusoe, was small but cute. We spent a lot of time in its outdoor sitting area, and liked having the fresh water tank in the room. Fans and shady palms kept it cool. The food was always delicious, and we enjoyed lunch and drinks on the beach as well as dinner there a few times. It was handy to keep a tab for the whole stay. Miquel at the front desk was warm and friendly. The wait staff were excellent, and the room and beach cleaners worked hard and did a great job. We’re planning to return next March.
