Jungle Chic Suites by Marea

The rooms were tiny and looked a bit old, and I wouldn’t recommend the place. I brought my dog without realizing it wasn’t pet friendly, but instead of telling me the first time, they fined me 2,000 pesos. The manager was rude and disrespectful when I spoke with him. Then the guy cleaning the pool sat beside me for 20 minutes, watching me in my bikini while I was alone in the pool. I felt very afraid. He ran off as soon as he saw other people coming. I told the manager, and he didn’t seem to care or even say sorry. Jungle Lux has a better management team, and is kinder and more respectful, with a cleaner feel. I’d go there instead.

There are lots of restaurants within an easy walk, and the building feels clean and lush. It also has a rooftop pool.

A cat lives on the property, which was a happy surprise. The apartments, pools, and staff were all great, and the water worked the whole time we were there. It’s a beautiful place in an area that’s still developing. The plants by the rooftop pool could use a little more attention.

The location in La Veleta was just right, near enough to walk around but far enough from the noise. We stayed in a Jungle Luxe Airbnb, the sister building to Jungle Chic, and it was a beautiful place. Best of all, it’s DOG FRIENDLY. Edgar and front desk attendant Saul made things smooth from arrival to departure, even when we were having a rough time. After we ran out of gas on our ATV and my bestie left her phone at a cenote, Edgar checked that we’d made it back safely. He’s warm, genuine, and incredibly attentive, and his charm made us feel at home. The elevator wasn’t working, so he and Saul carried our huge suitcases up four flights without a word of complaint. They were like superheroes, just with sweat instead of capes. These hosts made a run of mishaps much easier to bear. Highly recommend, but maybe check the ATV’s gas before setting off!
