For $300 for one person, it was excellent value. I only needed somewhere to sleep for one night, with a bed, bathroom, and fan, and that was just right.

The central location is good, but I had a really bad experience and wouldn’t recommend staying here. The place reeks of cigarettes, the rooms are awful and don’t even have curtains, and the mattress had a huge hole. It’s also used as a motel, so people are constantly coming and going. Truly awful.

The location is a real plus, with several spots in downtown Tuxtla Gutiérrez easy to visit from here. But Hotel Santo Domingo is very old and left me with a poor impression. I won’t come back. The beds were ancient, the fan was terrible, and there was no TV or other entertainment equipment. The bathroom was passable, but there was no hot water, and the walls and mirror were dirty. Service was poor. Most receptionists greeted us with sour, angry expressions, though one gentleman was exceptionally kind. When I forgot my room key, the receptionist told me to find someone to open the door and said I’d have to pay the cost. They charge a lot for bad service, and it felt like they’d charge for anything, even a pen. If you have a chance to stay in Santo Domingo, don’t miss it. There’s a new hotel right next door with much better service for the same price.

I paid 150 there, but saw it cost 240 on Airbnb. It felt like a rip-off, though I didn’t have more money at the time. The hotel is ancient, and the rooms are beyond awful. Mine was damp, the walls showed it, and it smelled just as bad. The bed was more like a mat than a mattress, and super uncomfortable. The bathroom was horrible too. The shower and sink were old, the sink was poorly installed, the ceiling was made of Styrofoam, and there was no hot water. Really bad.

The place was cheap, but not enough to make up for all the problems, especially since the hotel next door is even cheaper. Staff played loud Christian rock all day and night. They tried to charge us for a TV we didn’t want, then got rude when we tried to sort it out. The light switch only worked now and then, and the toilet leaked.
