Marriott Tuxtla Gutierrez Hotel

The beds were good, though the pillows were way too soft, and the dark curtains were nice. There was no traffic noise in my room at the back of the building. But the air conditioning stopped cooling late in the evening and just circulated warm air overnight, then cooled again in the morning. Maybe the hotel turns it off to save money? The heat kept me from sleeping, so that's why I'm giving two stars. The toilet also couldn't be flushed for several hours because the water was unavailable without warning. It's an okay hotel, but definitely not five stars.

I was told by the reservation line that I could complete a third-party credit card authorization for my family to book with my card, and that I wouldn't need to be there at check-in. Even so, the front desk canceled their reservation when they arrived, saying they couldn't charge the room without the cardholder present. They offered my family no solution. The international customer service line was just as unhelpful: they said billing is handled by each hotel and they couldn't reinstate the reservation. I've never dealt with such an incompetent group of people.

This is our regular hotel in Tuxtla, and the staff are the absolute best. We love everyone, from the receptionists to the cleaning and maintenance teams. A room on the fifth floor with lounge access is a great deal, and the service is consistently great.

The lobby and restaurant are impressive, but the rest felt very used. The hotel is old, with old carpet that smells like worn-out running shoes. I wasn't sure about the cleanliness, and the carpet dust nearly brought on an allergic attack. I couldn't sleep well. :(
