Hyatt Regency Villahermosa

I made the mistake of leaving my laundry here and expecting a fair price. They charged an absurd amount for something you can get done anywhere in the country. Don’t make the same assumption I did.

I keep coming back and haven’t been let down. The restaurant has plenty of different meals, and they’ve been good. Laundry has also been quick and efficient whenever I’ve used it. The rooms are consistently clean, and the staff are welcoming, with most able to speak English and Spanish.

The food was very good, and the waiters were always attentive and ready to help. The room was clean too. But I’d rate this as a 3-star hotel, not 4. When I arrived, the phone didn’t work. The maintenance guy’s response was basically, “Yes, it’s broken. Only tomorrow.” I also had trouble over room service: they wanted to charge me to bring food from the kitchen, even though that was included. There were no laundry bags in the room. Reception said sending them up wasn’t included and I’d need to pay in advance, despite my voucher saying unlimited laundry. The gym is very basic, and there isn’t a single scale anywhere in the facility. When I asked reception, they said maybe there was one in the gym. The gym bathroom also had paper towels all over the floor.

Francisco at the front desk and Rafael at the restaurant were especially helpful, and I appreciated their support during my long stay. The staff were friendly in general. Not everyone spoke English, but they tried their best. Meals need work if you’re vegetarian, there weren’t many breakfast or dinner options. If you don’t eat pork, be careful too: bacon showed up in dishes, and the beans were made with pork fat. I wasn’t happy to find that out. I also had to sign a bill for breakfast and dinner even though they were included in my room, which made no sense to me. A few other things: the gym floor should be updated because it didn’t feel safe, and the temperature swings from hot outside to freezing indoors had me wearing my jacket inside. I also got a lot of mosquito bites, so it would help if room service used mosquito repellent.
