Hotel Casa Faroles

A cozy spot, and the simple breakfast was delicious!

Breakfast came with the price and was served on the upstairs terrace, with fresh fruit or juice, eggs made however you like, bread, and coffee. We stayed in room 301, which was roomy and pleasant, with a good bathroom and a huge TV. The Wi-Fi was on and off, though. The location is hard to beat, since you can reach everything on foot. Parking is included across the street, but it’s a little dark and the spaces are tight if you have a bigger car. Great value for the price.

Really bad service, except for the kitchen guys, who were the only ones who treated me well. There’s no parking at the hotel. When I needed my truck, I had to walk about 50 yards to get to it, and at checkout I had to carry my luggage over there too. There wasn’t a refrigerator in the room either.

Casa Faroles is a lovely hotel near the historic center. The hotel staff were pleasant, especially the manager, though it can get a bit noisy. I visited Zacatecas in December 2024 with my family, and one waiter’s treatment of us ended up ruining the stay. On the first morning, Carlos Gomez told us there were only three breakfast choices. I ordered huevos divorciados, and when they came runny, I asked him to cook them more. He asked why I hadn’t said I wanted them over hard. I explained I wasn’t sure how they were cooked because there was no menu for me to see. He took the plate back and returned with the eggs well done. I noticed he was friendlier with other guests, but let it go. The second day I saw a QR code menu at our table and found there were more than three options. I ignored that too, since he only came by once. On our last day, there was no QR code at our table, so I asked Carlos for one. He said the food items were the same ones we’d ordered the previous two days. I went back to my table, and he eventually brought a code. We ordered and ate. My youngest daughter had ordered toast, but it arrived without butter or jam. I asked another waiter for butter, but he never came back. Then I asked Carlos, who brought butter on a dirty plate that had already been used by someone else. My family and I were shocked and speechless. We finished breakfast quietly because I was so angry. I went straight to the manager afterward. He apologized and wanted to make it right. He also said Carlos was a great waiter, and I agreed that I’d seen him being nice and cordial to everyone else, just not to my family. I’m sure we were discriminated against because we were the only family of color there, even though my husband tried to speak Spanish and I spoke it too, as someone of Mexican descent. I might have put up with the dismissive attitude and rudeness, but the butter incident went too far. My daughter couldn’t understand what she’d done wrong by asking for butter. I’d brought my family to enjoy my home country, and instead we went through this treatment for no reason. It left me disappointed and saddened that one person’s discrimination spoiled the trip and our stay.
