The room at Villa Matahari wasn't too bad, with a working AC, flat screen TV with local channels, kettle, clean bed, and a shower with good pressure and hot water. You'll need to ask for an iron. The resort sits right by the beach, which is a nice location. A makeover and a thorough scrub are overdue. Most of the buildings look abandoned, and the bathroom wasn't clean. Breakfast was nothing special, and the room could have cost less.

The way the resort is run is very laid-back, perhaps a little too much, and could use more professionalism. Still, if you just want to relax, that may not bother you. I had a really great stay. My suite was super clean and functional, with a direct beach view, just the thing to wake up to. The beach view from the restaurant is sensational, and breakfast was delicious, with fresh food and amazing fruit.

The view is lovely, and the pool looks directly out to the beach. There's also a campsite beside the villa. Keep expectations modest, bring your own snacks, and enjoy the sunset and sunrise. The resort grounds are clean, and food is available, though there's not much variety. Coco crunch and fresh milk at the cafe would be nice. The cafe toilet area isn't well maintained, and the pool needs work, including its uneven floor. There aren't many activities. The house is quite old. The room and toilet are spacious, but they can get slippery when wet, so take care if bringing elderly people. If you book for four, make sure you get toiletries and towels for four, not two. Reception is only available until 6pm. The kiblat signage for Muslim guests isn't pointing in the right direction.
