Hotel Jasmine Cameron Highlands

The reception service was top notch, and the room was clean with all the usual hotel amenities. The location is very strategic and close to the beach. The hotel has real potential, though the lobby should be improved. It was dark when we stayed.

We paid a little over RM90 for each of our two rooms, which felt acceptable and affordable. One room looked out over the roof, the other over the city. We were only there to sleep, so that didn’t matter. The beds were quite big for two people. Getting parking was difficult, and we had to pay with an app or coupons. The front desk charged us more for coupons. Our room had two towels, a kettle and mugs, but the kettle didn’t work. There are stairs to climb. The room only had a wall fan, which was fine for the local climate. We also found ants, a toilet that wouldn’t lock, and toilet fittings that kept slanting down.

At 2:45am, people knocked on my door and asked if I was Muslim and married. I didn’t open it and called the manager straight away. He said it was some government Islamic agency that does this every two or three months, but I don’t believe him. The room was very dirty. The curtains, ceiling, bed cover and washroom were all filthy.

The location is near restaurants, and the toilet was clean. Those were the positives. I booked a superior room, but it was so small there was no room to pray, so we had to do it on the bed. Our room was on the second floor and there’s no elevator, so we had to use the stairs. The receptionist was unfriendly when we checked in and made us feel unwelcome. Once inside, I noticed a couple of strands of hair on the bed. The price wasn’t much different from other hotels, so I’ll look elsewhere next time.
