At Penny's Place - Hostel, Caters to Women

The quiet neighborhood made it easy to get a peaceful night’s sleep. MK was flexible with check-in and checkout times, reachable by Messenger or WhatsApp during the stay, and guests get their own keys to come and go as they please. There’s a whole kitchen with a big fridge for cooking, and laundry is available. This place is more like a homestay than a hostel, though, so it’s very quiet and not for people hoping to socialize. There’s no hot water, and the female dorm beds are mattresses on the floor. There were a few mosquitoes, and MK put out “smoke” repellents to help. I booked directly with MK after seeing the good reviews, and this is my only option for leaving an honest review. The Wi-Fi barely worked, perhaps once or twice for a few minutes. The air conditioning only ran at night, apart from the last whole day of my stay, because MK kept the remote. If you plan to stay in the house during the day, it can get hot with only a fan. The AC is only in the female dorm; I don’t know whether private rooms have fans or AC, and there’s no AC elsewhere in the house. The toilet shower door was quite dirty when I arrived and wasn’t cleaned during my stay. The blankets had no covers, and I wasn’t sure they’d been washed between guests, so I slept using my own silky linen. I got my checkout date wrong and returned to the room later that day, thinking it was checkout day, but it was actually the day before. They had already taken my blanket and towel even though I hadn’t checked out. They should at least have waited until I left. MK wasn’t around when I went to bed, so I had to use my own blanket and towel for the last night.
