Gurney Bay Hotel, a PARKROYAL Hotel

Breakfast was excellent, and the lobby and hallways felt elegant and upscale. My room was spacious, nicely furnished, and in perfect shape, with a large bathroom and a pleasant view. The air conditioning and refrigerator both worked well. I also appreciated the outlets that take different plugs, including USB A and C chargers. The whole hotel has a feel of elegance and quality.

The staff were so helpful and friendly, and there's a lounge bar with entertainment. The bedroom was large and the bed really comfy. The bathroom felt a bit dated, and the shower was adequate but not brilliant. Good breakfast and a perfect location. Definitely recommend.

Breakfast has become a highlight for me since Parkroyal took over last year. The buffet has improved dramatically, and I always look forward to the wide selection of authentic local food, including charkoayteow, hokkienmee, mee goreng, bubor cha2, and green bean bubor. The dishes have the right familiar flavors from my childhood. Main Kitchen chef Sashikannan, Arshad, Butchery chef Vijay, and Pastry chef Edison & Nalini handle the spread. Kudos to Parkroyal for having these chefs 💪🏻❤️. I stayed here for more than 20 years, always with breakfast included, when it was under Evergreen Laurel.

Being right beside the beach and a large park makes for a peaceful stay, and George Town is still only about a 10-15 minute drive away. We had a wonderful four nights here. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and the reception team found us a room with accessibility features at check-in. Our standard Superior room had enough space for an extra bed, and Nasir, the housekeeper, kept it spotless and comfortable. One heads-up, there could be more power outlets, so a multi-port adapter would help if you have several devices.
