Inn Residence 18

The room was a bit small, but that was fine for us since we weren’t spending all day in it. If you just need somewhere to rest at night, it’s a good choice. It’s quite good for the price.

It’s a small hotel in the middle of the city, handy for a food tour, but the room was tiny, windowless, and not clean. The bed was dirty, the air-con stayed warm, and the Wi-Fi was so slow it was almost unusable. There were lots of bugs in the room too. For 150 ringgit, it should be cleaner. It was also very loud inside because it’s so close to the night market.

Inn Residence 18 has become my go-to whenever I return to Penang, and after another five-day stay during my trip from the United States, I’ll keep choosing it. The affordable price gets you clean rooms, comfortable beds, and an incredibly convenient location. I also felt completely safe coming back late at night. The staff greet me with warm hellos and big smiles, which makes a real difference after a long international flight. Their friendliness and genuine hospitality make the place feel personal and comforting, like home. Special thanks to everyone for that welcome each time! I’m not usually someone who writes reviews, but this hotel is so good I had to. A cozy, reliable hidden gem in the heart of Penang. LOVE IT SO MUCH!!

The location was okay, about a 10-15 minute walk to most sights in the historic part of town. Still, I won’t stay at Inn Residence 18 again. We had cockroaches in our room, and staff refused our request to change rooms, saying the hotel was full. When I brought it up the next day, the front desk was very rude and asked, “Do you see any cockroach today? If no, then I cannot change your room!” The bathroom was tiny, so we showered right next to the toilet. Laundry and other extra services listed on their Expedia profile weren’t available either. They pointed us to a laundromat five minutes away. I rarely write reviews, but I felt I should balance the one-sided reviews that misled me when I searched for hotels in George Town.
