Tropics Eight Suites

This was my second stay here, bringing my son to Hope Children's for treatment. It’s the best hotel closest to Hope Children's. The rooms are clean and spacious, and the service is excellent. ALL THE RECEPTIONIST are VERY FRIENDLY. Keep it up, and thank you very much! I wish the employees at Tropics Eight health and happiness.

The location’s handy, with plenty of nearby places to eat and shop: Goodall, mixue, 7eleven, Gift shop, MixShop, hidden dimsum, Jaya restaurant, Sawadee, and OOCafee. If you’re around Gurtney looking for a foodcourt, I’d say Goodall has the most choices, the best prices, and the best taste. The BakKutTeh isn’t the best in Malaysia, but for taste and price in Penang it’s the best. The Best BKT is in Sarawak. OOCafee is a must try, good food at a good price. The service was okay and the people were nice. There’s free water refill in front of the lift on each floor, plus free self-laundry on the 7th floor if you bring your own detergent. The gym shares a room with the laundry machines. The room was kinda okay, but not very soundproof. The door hinge might be too slippery, so it makes a loud noise when closing. Guests coming back at midnight might disturb other rooms.

The room finishings were lacking, and cleaning could be better. We found 2 think hairs on the bed and along its edge, as well as gecko poop on the shower walls. We were asked for a 200RM deposit that could only be paid in cash or by credit card. This hadn’t been mentioned before, and we only had debit cards, so after arriving tired from the flight we had to walk 10 MN under the hot sun to withdraw 200RM. Not a great check-in. Please send an email or message about this policy beforehand so guests can bring cash. If you get a room on the street side, you will NOT be able to sleep! The noise insulation is non-existant, and people race by on loud bikes and cars at all hours of the night.

The room was huge, with a nice bathroom and a small kitchen that had a big fridge, all of which I really liked. The TV wasn’t good, though. I’d expected at least YouTube if HBO wasn’t available. The sofa was quite comfy, but the bed was super hard, like plywoods under the sheets. Other guests told me their beds were fine, so I don’t know why mine was like that. I had three nights of bad sleep. The location was close to Penang Adventist Hospital and a food court, which was great. I was pretty much okay with having the graveyard as our balcony view, lol. The receptionist was super sweet, kind, welcoming, and helpful.
