Wil House

I trusted the other ratings and was shocked. It’s noisy from the street and the praying on massive speakers just 15m away, so you’ll be awake @ 5:45 am. The room wasn’t clean either: dirty towels and bedding, plus a horrible old mattress that was dirty and had every spring poking through. Nightlife on the same street is definitely 18+. There wasn’t even wifi in the room. I’d recommend nobody stay here, not even in Asia.

Wil went out of his way to help us, with recommendations for places to see and eat and his number in case we needed anything, day or night. We stayed at Wil House over Christmas week 2013, and the room was charming, spacious, and very clean, with an old style Penang antique look. On Christmas Eve he threw a party at the guesthouse and invited us along with his friends. We had a wonderful time. Our flight on the last day in Penang was late in the evening, and I had a bad headache. Since nobody was booked in after us, Wil kindly let us stay longer. We had a great stay and I highly recommend it.

Lovely place, and the host is super friendly. The only downside I found was the thin walls and floors. If someone walks around on the second floor, you can hear it clearly on the first.

This was my second stay, and it still has the same cozy feel. Wil, the owner, is helpful and friendly as usual. He’s put a lot of effort into making the place as comfortable as possible.
