S Boutique Hotel

The hotel occupies a corner unit in a block of shop lots with other businesses. It's on the second floor, and having a lift is a real plus. It's in a factory area, in the middle of nowhere, and not within walking distance of downtown. There aren't restaurants or cafes nearby apart from McDonald's. Free parking is available. The owner is Chinese. My biggest issue was the Malay receptionist. He was rude, unwelcoming, and never smiled. He spoke like a robot, simply giving instructions without expression or warmth, and seemed unwilling to make guests feel welcome. I asked for early check-in and he refused sharply, insisting on 3pm. He also demanded a 100RM cash deposit at check-in. When I asked for a printed receipt, he warned that I'd lose the 100RM if I lost it before checkout. The room was small but new and clean, with no bad smell. The beds, pillows, and carpet were clean, and there was a private balcony for light and ventilation. The toilet was clean, and the air conditioning worked well, though there was no fan. They provided bottled water, a kettle, and instant 3-in-1 coffee, plus a soap dispenser and towel. No other toiletries were included: no soap, shampoo, body wash, toothpaste, toothbrush, or shower cap. When I asked, the receptionist said I had to buy them and pointed to a cabinet with prices. There were enough outlets to charge devices, and the Wi-Fi was free. The 32-inch basic TV had only three channels and was useless to me, with no smart TV. It's a decent place for a night or so, aside from that arrogant receptionist, who shouldn't work in hospitality. Guest satisfaction should come first. The owners should hire friendly staff who know how to make customers comfortable, include basic toiletries, remove the compulsory 100RM deposit and trust guests not to damage the property, and add a small hand towel in the bathroom alongside the bath towel.
