OYO 491 D Anjung Inn

After our one night, the power suddenly went out in the morning for over an hour, and nobody apologized. The receptionist also came across as arrogant and could have spoken to us more politely. It's a budget place, so expectations have to stay modest. For anyone coming from far away, I'd message or call the hotel a day ahead to confirm check-in. Payment isn't taken through Agoda, so you're expected to pay at the hotel on arrival, which feels old-fashioned. Even with an Agoda booking, they may cancel at their discretion if they can't reach you through Agoda. Our details were already on the booking, and they could have looked them up or called us directly. We'd also told them right after booking that we'd arrive late, but they wouldn't accept that explanation.

It's right by a busy intersection, which is handy, but the room doesn't block much noise. I could hear motorbikes, cars and trucks going past even after 11 pm, and didn't sleep very well.

Our three-person group used D’Anjung Inn in Tangkak as a base before and after hiking Gunung Ledang. It worked well as a starting point and a place to recover afterwards. The room was simple but had what we needed: two queen beds, air-conditioning, a TV, kettle, mini fridge and basic furnishings. There was enough space, and it was comfortable for a night before the hike and for resting sore muscles after it. Our hiking gear and trail snacks ended up spread across the beds, including a North Face daypack, trekking poles, knee support, water, salt candies, raisins, haw flakes and other snacks. The inn has a local kampung lodge look, with red-tiled roofs, carved wooden eaves, arched entrances and Malaysian flags. Parking is right outside the rooms. Laman Angsana is shaded and works as both covered parking and a place to sit together. Check-in at the small reception was easy, with friendly staff. It's 2 pm check-in and noon check-out. A colourful wall map points out Tangkak sights and food stops, including Air Terjun Gunung Ledang (15.5 km), Taman Negara Gunung Ledang (14 km), Mee Bandung JKR, Asam Pedas Ikan Bakar and Pak Maan Western. Tangkak has more to offer than just access to Ledang. Evenings were peaceful under the shaded verandah, watching the sunset fall over the car park. The first evening brought some excitement about the climb, and on our return we felt glad to have finished it. D’Anjung Inn is simple, affordable and convenient for the mountain and town food.

For a couple staying one night for training at the legendary Gunung Ledang, the room was fine. There's plenty of parking, plus extra spaces beside the hotel near the rooms. Shops and food are an easy walk away: Secret Recipe, Petronas, Family Mart and kedai tomyam siam. Pandan Cafe has very tasty nasi lemak for breakfast. They have air gedegang and filtered water. It's Malay-owned, basically orang kita punya la. If you don't mind that, it's a place to rest for the night.
