The biggest red flag was being charged an extra RM16 for a pillow. The customer service was okay and they responded quickly, but the hotel felt haunted and eerie, with no other guests around. I wouldn't advise a solo traveller to stay here.

Spacious room, fresh interior makeover and a clean toilet. Parking is free and there's plenty of room to park wherever you like. Last thing, the rate was less than an OYO hotel, less than RM 1**. Thumbs up.

Outside, the building looks abandoned and haunted, but thankfully the inside is okay. The rooms are simple and clean, if quite old. The lifts seem to be the most updated part of the hotel.

The room is spacious and it's value for money. The hotel has been refurbished, though it still looks old.

Mayres Hotel is in the heart of Kota Tinggi, which made it easy to find food, groceries, laundromats and other amenities nearby. Check-in and check-out were smooth, and when I asked for an extra pillow, it was brought to my room promptly. Customer service was satisfactory. The hotel itself feels run-down, like an old building. The air conditioner fan was very noisy, the shower didn't seem to have hot water, and the room had no refrigerator despite the ads showing one. I'd rate the stay 2 out of 5.
