Staycity - D'Perdana Sri Cemerlang

I woke at 5am to the smell of burning and found what you can see in the video. I got out fast and sat outside for 5 hours. This felt like a wild bait-and-switch and a near-death escape. Check the police report in my photos and the video for the issue. They first offered rm 30, then half my money when I asked for a full refund, saying I had slept in the bed until 5am. I wouldn't take rm 0 for running from what seemed like an imminent electrical fire, and asked them to apologize, refund me, and call the fire department. They did none of those things. When I said I was going to the police, the receptionist and the owner, on her cell phone, argued with me for over an hour as if I were bluffing. I gave them more grace than I otherwise would have because I was a real estate attorney in New York for over a decade and still have a sliver of undeserved compassion for the monsters who used to pay my bills. They told me this was a homestay, not a hotel. Do their homes leak through the lights and smell like burning? I filed a report with the police. They explained how to submit it to the consumer tribunal, said I could also take it to the tourist police in KL, and agreed to speak to the owner and contact the right inspector about the wiring. I do plan to go to the tourist police tomorrow. As things unfolded, it seemed there were only a couple of owners in the building, and this one owns many apartments and uses several names on maps and booking sites, making accountability difficult. He also takes ONLY cash and gives no receipts, apparently to evade taxes, though that's another can of worms. This unit is right beside the pool. I hope no children get literally shocked when this all literally comes crashing down.
