Kota Kinabalu Marriott Hotel

The staff at both the front desk and club lounge were amazing, and they’re the main reason I gave this hotel five stars. The rooms are generously sized, the location is good, and the sea views are stunning if you book a room with a seaview. Planes pass overhead because the hotel is right under their landing path, and they can be pretty noisy. They never woke me, but keep that in mind if you’re very sensitive to noise.

I was very disappointed by the food safety issue during my stay and by the hotel's response. On 15/02/2026, I ordered room service. Within a few hours of eating, I developed severe symptoms, including diarrhea, ongoing vomiting, stomach cramps, weakness, and general physical distress. I needed treatment and a drip at a clinic. I went to reception to report what happened, but there was no apology or concern, and nobody seemed to treat it urgently. When I asked to speak with the manager to make a formal complaint, I was told he was “in a meeting” and directed to email him instead. At the clinic, I grew concerned this might not have been an isolated case, which made the lack of urgency even more troubling. For an issue involving a guest's health and food safety, that response was unacceptable. For the price, the stay wasn't worth it, and this was the worst Marriott stay I've had. I don't feel the hotel met the service or standards I'd expect from a Marriott property. I hope these “managements” conduct a thorough investigation of their kitchen.

This was my third stay here, and I loved it again. The room was spacious, clean, and had a great temperature. The staff were friendly and efficient, and the banquet team did a great job at the 17 January event. I especially enjoyed the food at breakfast and the extra teh tarik. We'll definitely come back for our next stay. ❤️
