Sakot Hostel

We were very happy here and would book the same room again. Our family of four had the family room, with a king(?) bed, a bunk bed for the kids, and a private bathroom, so it felt a bit like a cheap hotel. Other rooms are dorms with several single beds and shared bathrooms. The rooms were very clean and fairly new, though there were a few surface wear marks. They were doing quite a bit of renovation in April 2019. From around noon until 10-11pm, there were lots of staff around cleaning, and they were helpful and friendly. I didn't see anyone available in the morning. There's also a restaurant/bar that opens in the evening. Locals come for lunch. The staff are friendly, though their English is a little limited.

The staff are friendly and always ready to help guests. The rooms are neat and clean, and the food is delicious. Great music, food, and drinks at the bar. You won't be disappointed.

I've stayed here twice, once in a family room and once in a dormitory, and it's very comfortable and safe for the price. The beds are comfy, the bath towels are thick, and the air-conditioned rooms and hostel are clean and tidy. They provide a water dispenser, kitchen, washing machine, and iron. The staff are nice and the owner is friendly. It's easy to find a market or restaurant nearby. Oya, a new word for travellers: Sakot means grass in Dusun/Murut. Enjoy there!

The hostel itself was clean, cosy, and convenient, with a reading lamp and socket by each bed. Our eight-person room had four bunk beds and two toilets, which was great because we barely had to wait. There's also a kitchen and washing machine, and the location is central with easy access. Check-out was simple: just leave the key in the box by the door, and the time is 1pm, which I appreciated since many 2- or 3-star places make you leave at noon. But when we arrived around 8pm to check in, nobody was at the counter. After a long journey, we waited nearly half an hour outside the door. The receptionist service was bad. They should put a bench outside so people can sit while waiting for someone to show up. The air conditioning wasn't cold and seemed to need servicing, maybe it had run out of gas. We slept hot and had to carry the mattress downstairs to the floor. The room alone would get 10 stars from me, minus 5 for the air conditioning. Parking is available at the town hall from Monday to Saturday with a coupon. The counter to buy one is only a two-minute walk away. There isn't a full-day coupon, just ones for up to two hours. Get the red coupon for around rm10.60, and use two coupons for 8a.m.-12p.m. if you're not planning to drive before check-out.
