Jalan Alor is a one-minute walk away, and the hotel is on Jalan Tengkat Tongshin. Food is easy to find at any hour, with a convenience store 150 meters away and a 24-hour coin laundry within 100 meters. Grab was easy to call and the hotel was easy to find, though there’s nowhere for a car to wait, so you need to get in or out quickly without blocking traffic. We stayed in the Queen Bed with Balcony Room because we didn’t want a room without a window. Check before booking if that matters to you. The room is small for three people, me, my wife, and our three-year-old son, so there wasn’t much space to do anything. It was clean aside from some ants getting into sugar packets. The bed was soft, and the extra pillow worked well for the three of us. The shower and water heater were fine, with decent pressure. The staff were straightforward and fine with us. Check-in and check-out were simple, communication was no problem, and we didn’t have the rude service mentioned in some reviews. They took a RM50 cash deposit and returned it at checkout, though they didn’t give a receipt. The AC was very cold for a small 16m2 room. Soundproofing is poor, so we could hear people talking in the hallway. From a balcony room, you should expect street noise, though it didn’t bother us. There’s no breakfast or facilities, just a basic room to sleep in. Not bad if that’s what you need while exploring KL.

I only booked here because other KL hotels had no rooms during the festive season. It’s affordable if you’re looking for a budget hotel, but there’s no parking of its own, so drivers have to use an open lot. During a festive period, parking can cost RM25 per entry. I wouldn’t recommend room 305. The TV has apparently been unfixed for a long time, the kettle was dirty, the room was dusty, and I found hair on the bed. At night, you can hear people talking and walking in the alley because the soundproofing is bad. Bring your own toothbrush too, since they charge RM5 for one.

It was great to find a room at 12fly Hotel. The location is very convenient, and the price felt low for the comfort and facilities. The place was clean, and the owner followed the COVID season SOP closely. I’d stay here again. I do wish they offered bicycle rental so I could explore more of KL, including places a little farther out. If you want a closer look at the heart of Malaysia, this is a place to try.

The location is the only reason I’m giving two stars. I checked in around 4 pm on 29/12, and the staff member didn’t seem welcoming or friendly. He looked unsure what to do, and when I asked for a receipt, he acted like it was an exhausting task. The room was a little outdated, though the size and amenities were okay. If you’re a light sleeper, I’d look elsewhere. The nighttime noise came from cars, trucks, and buses going along the street right in front of the hotel, not from Alor Street behind it.
