I stayed one night at the Grand Medallion Hotel in Kuching for a business trip. It’s in a quiet shop lot area, not as lively as the town center, but close to Tabuan Jaya, where I needed to go. There are a few restaurants and a local bank nearby. The staff were polite and friendly, and my room was spacious, clean, and well maintained. They don’t provide toothbrushes or toothpaste, and there’s no breakfast on site.

The room was very spacious, and the friendly aunty at reception made me feel safe during my business trips. There’s plenty of parking too. The only downside is that the counter isn’t open 24 hours, so you need to plan ahead if you have to check out early in the morning.

My flight meant I arrived after check-in, and found the main door locked. Nobody answered the phone number listed on the booking or the door, and there was no automatic way to get in or contact anyone about a late arrival. It made for a miserable stay. This place isn't suitable for business travel. The photos make it look better than it is, too. It's just a shop-lot motel with a fancy name. Traveloka should screen places that give guests such a poor experience. Terrible stay!

The front desk staff were friendly, so they earn the two stars. The room had a strong moldy smell, seemingly from the mattress, and Wi-Fi only worked outside the room. The air conditioner did cool the room, but it's an old unit with manual controls rather than a digital display. The toilet was the worst part: it wouldn't flush properly, waste stayed in the bowl, and the water level rose. The earliest checkout is 6:45am.

The service was good, and I would stay here again. I do hope management can improve security by giving each customer two access cards. The main door locks after 11pm, so if one guest needs to get something important from the car while a baby is in the room, having just one card causes a problem. 👍
