Hero Hostel

Regina was lovely and helped us with everything, from daily suggestions to getting around Kuching and the surrounding area. The hostel itself is simple, but the superhero decorations are great, with each room themed around a different hero, like Batman or Spiderman. There are several nearby local restaurants serving traditional food at good prices, and the waterfront is about a 10-minute walk. A free bus also passes right outside. You can book online too. I'd definitely recommend it.

The woman who greeted us was very kind and even walked us to the tourist center. The cute theme was nice, but the thin walls meant we could hear one neighbor skyping and complaining, and others coughing and snoring through the night. The bathroom floor was always wet. There are two showers, but only one has hot water, which is a hassle if someone is using it. We hadn't asked for housekeeping, yet staff entered our locked room to clean while we were out on both of the two days. We had left our valuables inside, so we hadn't expected or wanted them to go in.

I got the Superman room. It was clean, dry, tidy, and had AC. I actually like Iron Man more, but the Iron Man towel made up for that :D Regina and the owner were both really, really nice and helpful. Just know before you book that Marvel and DC are mixed together, and Bruce Lee is in there too. But hey, it's the hero hostel! ;)

For 30MYR++ a night, I got a double bed and private bathroom, which was a nice budget option. The room was comfortable, and the air conditioning was freezing cold. The toilet was clean, and the main Kuching attractions and food area are close enough to walk to.
