Threehouse Bed & Breakfast - Hostel

There’s a small kitchen for travelers, with a fridge, microwave, stovetops, and all the utensils and accessories you’d need to cook. The place is extremely clean and well located in the Chinese village, a short walk from the waterfront and Kuching’s main attractions. Just know that some rooms don’t have windows. We didn’t mind, since we only used our room to sleep.

The location is great and the facilities are fine, but the hostel is unmanned, so there’s no one to ask about the area. My main problem was a truly awful smell coming from the drains. The sewage odor spread through the whole place, and I had to sleep with a towel held against my face. I left early and stayed somewhere else. Be warned.

The common room was useful, and I liked being able to keep things in the fridge. There was laundry service too. The rooms were small, which was fine for the price, but there were no cupboards or anywhere else to put our things. The bed was uncomfortable and broke several times during our stay. The kitchen, especially the floor, and the showers were pretty dirty. Bins were sometimes overflowing, and the toilets often had no toilet paper. Breakfast was the usual Borneo toast and jam. Coffee was supposed to be available, but usually wasn't. I liked staying here overall, but unfortunately I can only give it two stars.

The rooms have apparently been renovated recently, and I had a pleasant stay. It can get noisy when the place is full, though. The location is handy, on China Street near the waterfront, Plaza Merdeka and India Street, with lots of eateries and bars nearby. Despite what the Google Maps listing says, the place is open. You can book through a booking provider or call the owner, and check-in and check-out are self-service. If you're on a budget and want to be close to the fun in Kuching, I'd strongly recommend it.
