OYO 890 Hotel RK Cahaya

The best part was getting to see club-goers get into a fight last night. We ended up here because several of the other good hotels weren’t available, and the location is good, but the room was awful. Broken tiles had been covered with a blanket glued to the floor, and walking from bed to toilet felt like stepping over broken glass. The water pump service guy came straight into our room without knocking, then went out to check the pump. We were lying on the bed and were shocked, though luckily we were decent. The heater was broken and gave no heat.

The location made parking easy, and the hotel is opposite a huge pub. Thankfully, our room kept most of the noise out. The front desk looked clean and in good condition, the receptionist was polite, and we paid around RM76 a night through Agoda. In the room there was a kettle and toiletries, plus an iron and board outside. The toilet was clean and the shower worked well, but the room and toilet smelled bad, perhaps because of poor ventilation. There was dust everywhere, hair and dirt on the sheets and pillowcases, and the floor didn’t look properly cleaned. We couldn’t stand the smell, especially from the toilet. One note about OYO bookings: call the hotel the day before to confirm. We’ve had three bad experiences with OYO hotels in different places and states, where bookings weren’t valid and OYO cancelled without telling us. That wasn’t the hotel’s fault, but OYO’s.

A day before I was due to arrive, hotel staff called and asked me to cancel my Agoda booking. My card had already been charged, but she said the hotel no longer accepted online reservations because Agoda offered customers too low a price. When I asked why the listing hadn’t been removed, she said they had just done that. I had to cancel and still don’t know how long the refund will take. It was a bad situation since I’d already planned my trip budget around the booking. If this happens to you, I suggest filing a complaint with Agoda, as I did.

Right in the middle of town, and otherwise a nice place to stay. The rest was okay, but the towel, blanket, and pillow smelled awful. They need to do something about that.
