Penarak Bamboo Beach Motel

It was peaceful, with a lovely view of both sunrise and sunset, and I liked relaxing under the trees by the sea. There's also a pool. The price felt fair for what we got, and the room was large and clean. My water heater was broken, so I had to switch rooms.

The next day we were moved to a beach view room with a balcony looking out to sea, and there was no extra charge for the faulty heater in our original Queen Size Bed Room. The first room's water heater didn't work, so at night we boiled water in electric kettles for showering and used the waste basket with its plastic liner to mix hot and cold water. We also found a cockroach in the room. We bought insecticide from a nearby supermarket and killed it the following day. The room was reasonably clean, and the towels were clean too. There was no daily room tidying unless we requested it. Staff mostly spoke Malay, and their English wasn't fluent. For this price range, it's a reasonably good motel for a short stay.

The main reason to stay here is the view. Room amenities are average, but the sea views are great, and the water level changes from one day to the next, usually rising at night and early in the morning. It's quiet and serene, with a laundry nearby and easy access to Kuala Langkawi, especially if you're arriving by ferry. The lane feels a little deserted, though it's only a 1-2 minute drive away. Agoda usually books rooms without a sea view, and sea view rooms cost a bit more depending on the season. There was no shampoo or cupboard, just a stand for hanging clothes. The only table was a small square one with a fridge underneath. The Wi-Fi was barely usable, so working from the hotel isn't really possible and you'd need your own data. You can also hear people talking on neighboring balconies while they enjoy the view.

The sea view and fisherman's village make the surroundings feel peaceful and calm, and the secluded location gives guests privacy. For a motel, it was a nice surprise to find a small swimming pool overlooking the jetty, seafood restaurant, mountain scenery, and picturesque surroundings.
