Sinaran Motel

For a budget stay, I found the rooms and washroom clean and tidy enough. There’s air conditioning, hot water, a TV with local channels, and drinking water; the iron board is at reception. That’s what I personally consider acceptable, so don’t expect too much if you have high expectations.

A nice, clean place, and the people working there were good.

The location is beside other rundown hotels in a dead part of the island. The room is basically just a bed and TV, with no fridge, kettle, or prayer rug. You can stay by the beach for the same price and get a fridge, kettle, and free water. Booking in person costs 60-80MYR a night, while online it’s only 40MYR. Foreigners are charged 10MYR tax, though I thought it should be 1 ringgit for a 1-2 star hotel, so that seems like a 900% profit for them. Check-in is strictly after 2pm. Reception is usually empty, and once you find someone, expect to stand at the counter for another 30 minutes while they fill in paperwork.

The air conditioning gets very cold, and the shower has a good flow. It’s fine for a one-day stay, with the mall within walking distance. The shop downstairs has closed, so the streets can feel a bit quiet at night.
